Idelaire shutting down Friday , Jan 29th ...it was announced today...Jan 28th, but their 315 employees had been notified of a possible shutdown back in November 09... They have been trying to find a buyer...no luck...

They had 131 locations in 34 States...I guess they will revert to regular truck parking spots again...Maybe they will eventually take down the hardware....It seemed to me --most truckstops lost parking spots with the installation of Idelaire system...

Maybe someone will buy them out of bankruptcy and try and restore the service in some locations... So much for their attempt at lowering exhaust emissions and saving diesel fuel costs for fleets..

Reading another truckers' blog....he suggested they cut up the steel from Idelaire sites and send it down to Haiti...Maybe they could also get a donation tax write off... It would be helpful in most truckstops to have the extra 25 or more parking spots back again once the steel structures were removed...

I am thinking most or just about any truck driver could have told them Idelaire was a bad idea...I am thinking the only reason it made it so far....US gov't funding... sort of like Ethanol production...

I think sometype of electrical plug-in at truckstops might be good idea and could be more reasonably priced... Maybe they were partially overcome by technology improvements....laptop computers, satelite TVs, cell phones. APUs, plus the downturn in the economy and trucking freight ...etc...

I agree with the idea of why they are going out of business. They really aren't needed. They are expensive to use. AND they were required to let a truck park in one of thier spaces if the IdleAir was not full but the parking lot was. So, kinda defeated the purpose.

The electric plug-in is a great idea as far as I am concerned. Another company would probably have to do it though. The truckstop wouldn't be able to afford the initial outlay for installing it.

I've seen a few truck stops with the electric hookups and they are left empty. I know thatthe rigmaster type generator that we had didn't have shore power capability. The onan that we have now does.

Idleaire priced themselves out of business. What makes me so angry is on the 27th of Jan they took $20 from Gayle for a Gold membership KNOWING that they were shutting down the next few days. That sucks. We use Idleaire a lot because we didn't want to put another APU on our truck. Idleaire worked well for us.

We were at the Lodi TA day before yesterday and there were people using the IdleAire.

I wonder if the truck stops where idle air is can take over the equipment and offer the service?
