Read in the OKC newspaper today... Extreme Home Makeover is coming to build a home for a deserving family in OKC area during the first week of FEBRARY!!
They are looking for thousands of volunteers ... already went to IdealExtremeHome.com to sign up... I opted for the first day of the build project on Feb 1st... 2 pm to 6 pm shift.... sure hope the WX is good that day and for the week... Ideal Homes is a large local builder...actually headquartered here in Norman...
I am looking forward to Feb 7th....standing out front and hollering... "MOVE THAT BUS" ....
If all goes well....will be able to check another item off my "bucket list"....
They are also doing a blood drive and food drive during the build week...plus I think they are going to do another house in the Tulsa, OK area too.

OKC Extreme Home Makeover....Knock on the homeowner's door is tomorrow...plus my first and only work shift... Due to the secret nature of Day 1...will not know until mid morning or later where to go to the build site... Anticipate maybe helping pack up their belongings before Demo day...
Oklahoma Winter WX has also been extreme since last Thurs...major ice, sleet and snow storm...caused 179,000 or so southern Oklahomans to lose electric power due to downed power lines... Fortunately we got less ice buildup and our power stayed on...

OK...the EHME update....My volunteer shift was changed from 2pm to 6 pm on Monday to 6pm to Midnight...I showed up at 5:30pm as requested, but was turned away about 1/3 mile from the build site out in the country by a County Deputy Sheriff and EHME Security Guard. I was told to go back down the narrow two lane blacktop road to a small church and then be bussed to the site...except when I got there --No bus...no one in charge of volunteers.
After waiting around for about 90 minutes...made a command decision to return home. Since I only volunteered for one shift...they had to build the house and small barn without me this week. Overall the WX was Extreme too--cold, rainy. Mud made the project very difficult, but they got it done..."Move That Bus" is today at 2 pm....since you still can not drive to the build site...I have decided to stay home instead of braving the cold, rain and possible snow today.
You can check out the progress reports of this past week at IdealExtremeHome.com....Their build project in Tulsa that finished on Feb 3rd...seemed to be better organized than here...
You can check it out...SimmonsExtreme.com.
The amazing thing about these Extreme Makeover Home Edition....all of the labor and building materials are done with volunteers with no expense to the TV producers...No wonder Reality Shows are so popular on the networks...draw large audiences with paid advertisers...minimal production costs!
Hopefully...someone learned a lesson -- homes built in one week should not be planned for the months of Jan and Feb in Oklahoma !!
