I-75 Exit 42
Detroit, Michigan
NOT TO BAD!
With any Truckstop you have to be cautious.
Very well lit at night and the showers were clean.

YIKES! That's too close to Detroit for me. I'll drive the extra miles and stay at Woodhaven or farther south in Monroe.

I've seen nothing in the Detroit area I would ascribe the term "not too bad" to.. In fact, I always preferred running in and out of Chicago to the Detroit area.

Ill take Detroit!
I know its got a bad rap and prolly for good reason.I however have NEVER had ANY problems there at all.
Id DEFINITELY take Detroit over Chicago personally.

It's been just the opposite for me. Nothing but problems in Detroit and nothing but good experiences with Chicago, including the traffic. At least in Chicago you pretty much know what the idiots are going to do in traffic, but Detroit, it's a crap shoot every time you go there. Not to mention Chicago is laid out much better street wise. I constantly got turned around in Detroit every time I drove there and that only happened once in Chicago and I actually ended up exactly where I needed to be after looking at a map.

You bet its just the opposite!!
Funny actually, I get lost EVERY time i go to Chicago and i can go anywhere in Detroit.
For some reason it is just terribly confusing to me and i just cant get my bearings. Its the ONLY city ive ever had that problem in... AND the people there!!!
Talk about Idiots, incredibly rude all ive ever met there.
I HATE Chicago, not a single good thing to say about it and would drive 100 miles outta the way to bypass it!

And I've had just the opposite experiences, even down in the not so great parts. I delivered to a pizza manufacture off Cicero, and they were great people to deal with, even to the point of helping me get into the unloading area, which I had to driver forward into, next to a chain link fence and under a canopy! The truck just barely fit both width and length. Then, they all came out to stop traffic both ways until I could back out and the directions they gave me back to the expressway were perfect. Detroit, I almost always got lost, constantly ran into run and ignorant people, etc. The only bad experience I ever had in Chicago was at a grocery warehouse, imagine that! LOL I had one delivery in Detroit that I couldn't get to without going down a street that was marked no trucks over 3 axles. I had just spent the last 45 minutes trying to get to the place, but due to construction every street I had access to was a one way going the opposite direction I needed to go! I figured I hadn't seen a cop during that time and I needed just one stinking block on that street to get to a one way going the correct way. I never had issues like that in Chicago. Strange how those things work. 2 different drivers, 2 different cities and such opposite experiences in them.

I'm like that with NY City.
I'll take it over Chicago ANYday of the week.
Of course running it three times a week for 8 yrs got me in the "New York State of Mind!"

And you couldn't get me to go back to NYC for much of anything. I saw enough as a passenger when running mail in and out of the Bronx and JFK.

Never mind a crap shoot! Detroit is always a shoot-out.
Better off to go south to Monroe or west to Dexter than stay in the city.

Stopped at a truck stop in Morton, Il last week. I74 mm102. Very nice! Small but clean showers, large parking lot, friendly service. Think it was a shell. Fast food only but a restaurant is right across the street. This is just east of Peoria, Il.

If any of you carry cameras, how about snapping some shots of your favorite truck stops and posting them. That really helps a lot instead of just a description.

Hip, I get into the area only occasionally. We have a distributer on the west side and we sometimes get stuck in the area waiting for loads. If there were a way we could touch bases, I'd pop for lunch. Trouble is I never know when I'm going to be there.
