Hi fellow members Been a while since the last update but something happened today that makes you go

At a major HF customer the normal procedure is to weigh in "heavy" (with driver onboard), get gate pass, stage in preassigned area and wait til receiver comes down to get you and escort truck to tank farm, unload/process paperwork, then back to scale to weigh out "light".

Had completed delivery there, and pulled on "exit" scales. , opened drivers door and stood on top step rail to allow sufficient reach to hand security back the gate pass and weigh the m/t truck trailer combination

Security Officer says " get back in the truck and sit down" looked at him and stood there as was prior procedure. He again says "get in , sit down, so we can get an accurate weight".

Started to tell him the steps/rail were connected to the truck and the entire truck was on the scale SO.... the weight would be the same either sitting in the drivers seat or standing on the step/rail but realized that the facts would only "confuse" him so we sat down and said "thanks"

The "adventure"continues....

The "adventure"continues...

Arrive to load at shipper in "South Chicagoland" about 20 minutes late after wasting almost 2 hours earlier that morning "hunting" a tank that was not in STL even though the paperwork said it was

Am informed that their scale is "broken" and given directions to an off-site public scales for "MT" weight.

Return about 45 minutes later after battling several "low bridges" & one way streets (YA gotta LOVE Chicagoland)
and back into loading area.

Sitting in cab, reading paper and listening to XM, when we "hear" fire engine approaching from the East.

Look about 4 blocks East up street and see the unit headed West "Under Colors" (red lights/siren/air horns).

Get out and "look around" at the 2 & 3 story homes in this primarily residential neighborhood but don't see any smoke or folks *waving/screaming* so just stand there enjoying the passing show (after 33 years of F.D. STILL LIKE Engines running "Under Colors" )

IMAGINE my look when "they" pulled into the loading area next to my truck, stoped, and got out

Investigation revealed that the shippers fork lift driver had hit the sprinkler system with a "tote" and knocked off a sprinkler head that triggered an alarm............

Then later that evening when we arrived at the tankwash in Cincinnati.......guess what tank we found there.........................YUP.... the one that was supposed to be in STL

YA just gotta pay attention all the time

The "adventure"continues....

Fireret, I hope you're keeping a journal of your "adventures" so when you REALLY REALLY retire and write your book we can enjoy all your "adventures" at one sitting.

Hi fellow members... Thought we would do a quick update to the thread before leaving out for Ky. with a load of "HF".

Stopped at a"Mom & Pop" T/S in S/W MO. a few days ago, during "rush" hour, to grab a shower. (If we don't feel like *hasseling* with one of the major "chains" crowds, we do this quite often). Usually a little less expensive and QUICKER if you need the time....

Walk up to the nice , elderly lady at the fuel desk and ask the price of a cash shower??

She replies "3 bucks", NO LINE!!!!!

Think "cool" and give her 3 one dollar bills and get towels/washcloth. She shows me the "shower room" which is a residential, basement, "add-on"
kit installed in the furnace/water heater area of the facility.

Think to self BUT REALLY, REALLY, need to take a shower. close door to furnace room and get ready for shower.....
open curtain to shower stall and start my off because the *joystick* type handle that controls waterflow/temperature was broken off and the assembly had a pair of *Vise-Grips* clamped to it for operating the shower

It was an "interesting" shower to say the least...
since our "hero" goes 6'5"/300+

Guess now we know WHY it was ONLY 3 dollars

The "adventure"continues....

I am wondering if our Tanker guy fell overboard from the cruise ship he was on??

Hopefully Fireret made it back safe and sound for Thanksgiving at home with family...I was thinking he might have a cruise adventure or two to share too...

Hi gang, just wanted to check in and tell all that it was not me in the acid tanker that went "upside down" in KCMO this A/M Sketchy details except that it was HCL and not HF. Driver and 2 LEO's were taken to hospital with minor inhalation injuries.....a release of about 250 gallons occurred so should have been a pretty impressive vapor cloud released

Ya just gotta pay attention all the time

What no new adventures from our favorite "tanker-Yanker"???

Maybe you are semi-retired now rather than cruising around the country...

I had dreamed if I was a O/O might just take the months of Jan and Feb off each year...or winter south of the I-20 somewhere...

I am thinking a Carribean cruise or a vacation to San Antonio or Arizona or San Diego,CA might be a good idea during February..

I live in Iowa,as much snow and cold weve had this year, any place that's nice and/or free of snow would be extremely nice.I was in Utah and Wyoming last week and both sdtates didnt even have a trace of what we got this yr not even up in the mountains.I think most their snow got shipped to Iowa.Im home now well actually in my truck at the truckstop my driveway is now too small for trk due to all the snow and its real cold here.So to prevent from getting a jumpstart when I do leave sunday,im staying in my trk at night.I just hope my dispatcher gives me a ld going south after hometime and just keep me there till say July.LOL
